Pine Tree Removal for a Norfolk Housing Association

In this blog...

Project Overview – pine tree surgery

We were called in by a housing association in Norfolk to remove a number of mature pine trees that were starting to cause problems for the residents. These trees were overhanging a block of flats, blocking natural light, damaging parts of the building, and preventing rooftop solar panels from working properly.

Location

Norfolk – Housing Association (Grounds Maintenance)
(We also serve Suffolk and Cambridgeshire for this type of tree surgery)

The challenges

  • Pine trees were casting heavy shade over residential flats
  • Solar panels weren’t working efficiently due to lack of sunlight
  • Tree branches were close to the building, risking damage to the roof and walls
  • Tree roots were starting to affect nearby paving and hard surfaces

Our approach

Safe, controlled Tree Removal

After a detailed assessment of the site, our experienced tree surgeons carried out a sectional dismantle of the pine trees. This means we removed them piece by piece, using rope and climbing techniques to safely work around the buildings without causing damage.

We kept in close contact with the housing association to make sure everything ran smoothly and didn’t disrupt the residents.

Repurposing green waste on site

The housing association wanted a more sustainable approach, so rather than chipping and removing the timber, we got creative with the green waste:

  • We built a habitat pile at the edge of the communal green, providing shelter for birds, insects, and other local wildlife
  • Select logs were cut and arranged into natural seating, giving the residents a rustic space to sit and enjoy the outdoors

All work was carried out to BS3998:2010 arboricultural standards, meaning everything was done properly, safely, and with long-term tree care in mind.

Results

  • Solar panels are now fully exposed and working efficiently
  • Flats have more natural light, especially on upper floors
  • Risks to the building have been reduced
  • Outdoor space has been enhanced with seating and habitat features
  • Absolutely no green waste went to landfill
