Project overview
We were asked to create a natural woodland walk path in Thetford, Norfolk, making the area more accessible while keeping the charm of its natural surroundings. The site was covered in fallen branches, tree stumps, and uneven ground, so our job was to clear the way and lay a path that felt like it had always belonged there.
Challenges
- The area was full of organic debris, stumps, and uneven terrain, making it tricky to walk through.
- We needed to make sure the existing trees and plant life were protected while still creating a clear, usable path.
- The path had to be low-maintenance, long-lasting, and blend naturally into the woodland.
How did we approach this job?
1. Clearing the Site
- We used a compact loader with a specialist attachment to clear away tree stumps, roots, and other obstacles.
- Careful work was done around established trees and plants to preserve the natural habitat.
2. Laying the Path
- Once the ground was cleared, we laid down a natural mulch surface—a great choice for woodland paths as it’s soft underfoot, drains well, and blends beautifully with the surroundings.
- Fallen logs from the site were repurposed as natural edging, keeping everything in place while maintaining the woodland’s rustic charm.
3. Finishing Touches
- We made sure the path was easy to walk on and fitted seamlessly into the landscape.
- Our approach focused on sustainability, using only natural materials to support the woodland’s ecosystem and encourage local wildlife.
The Result
- The new woodland walk is now a safe, clear, and inviting route for visitors.
- The log edging gives it a natural, well-defined look while keeping the project eco-friendly.
- The site still feels wild and untouched, but now it’s easier for people to enjoy it without damaging the environment.
- The client was really pleased with the result, and the path is already being well used by visitors!
